Our text this half term is 'The Dragon Machine' by Helen Ward. This is a story based on adventure and imagination. The end assessed piece of writing is a retell of their own version of the story with substitution.

Objectives covered:

Plan or say out loud what is going to be written about

Use punctuation correctly – full stops, capital letters, question marks and exclamtion sentences

Use expanded noun phrases to describe and specify

Use subordination (because) and coordination (and)

Sequence events correctly, creating a story that flows

Use paragrpahs correctly to organise ideas

Use a range of openers and conjunctions, inclduing and, but,so, that, meanwhile

Children will have opportuniteis to describe characters, settings and inventions. They will also use their own imagination to substitute characters and events.
